Surah Al-Ghashiyah is a Meccan chapter. It has been narrated from Al-Nu'man ibn Bashir that the Messenger of Allah - peace be upon him - used to recite "Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High" and Al-Ghashiyah in the Eid prayer and on Fridays. Imam Malik said, from Dumra ibn Said, from Ubaidullah ibn Abdullah: That Al-Dhahhak ibn Qais asked Al-Nu’man ibn Bashir: What did the Messenger of Allah - peace be upon him - recite on Friday alongside Surah Al-Jumu'ah? He said: "Has the story of the Overwhelming come to you?" Narrated by Abu Dawood from Al-Qanabi, and by An-Nasa'i from Qutaybah, both from Malik with it. It was also narrated by Muslim and Ibn Majah from the narration of Sufyan bin Uyaynah from Dumrah bin Sa'id, with it. Al-Ghashiya: one of the names of the Day of Resurrection. This was stated by Ibn Abbas, Qatadah, and Ibn Zayd; because it encompasses the people and covers them. Ibn Abi Hatim has said: My father told us, Ali ibn Muhammad al-Tanafisi told us, Abu Bakr ibn Ayyash told us, from Abu Ishaq, from Amr ibn Maimun who said: The Prophet - peace be upon him - passed by a woman reciting: ( Has the story of the overwhelming come to you? ) and he stood listening and said: " Yes, it has come to me ".
